My Blog

My Blog will be a share of my thoughts, basically a journal.
 I plan to stay un-known, for there’s only one purpose to this blog, which is to share some of the thoughts and odd ideas for our future that I’ve been having lately. I don’t plan to share them to people I know personally, other then maybe a close friend. I’m doing it this way because these ideas I actually haven’t found my reason for. They just come to mind with how this world is already leading and the very negative and sometimes positive ways it may end up.Sometimes they start to scare me but I think it’s the fear that keeps me so excited and entangled with them. I don’t mind comments, share your own opinion to my whole ordeal. Maybe we have some of the same ideas in mind. I also plan to post another post after this one with how these thoughts began to flourish, and explain more to you of what they really are(actually get started). I’m not sure if I’m just doing this to get them off  my chest or if to find an actual answer to some of my questions. Either way, that is all this blog is about. This isn’t an actual personal journal so they really are unnecessary anyway but I’m not sure what else to call it, just a blog of thoughts that I don’t mind sharing.

During a photo shoot, the photographer will usually direct the model for any specific poses that the photographer is trying to capture, but it helps if the model knows what to do without a lot of direction.

Some General Posing Tips:

Don't hold your breath for a pose. The concentration usually shows in the picture.
Hold in your stomach to give a more toned appearance to the abdomen (even if you are in great shape).
Most people, including models, do not have very good posture. Unless you're going for a casual look, keep your back straight and your shoulders up.

Don't keep both arms entirely straight unless directed to do so for a specific pose. Bend one or both arms, even if only a little, to make the pose look less artificial. Likewise, don't keep both legs entirely straight.

Don't always look straight at the camera. Instead, use a variety of head and eye positions: Try turning your head, tilting your neck to one side or the other, or looking off to the side for some poses.

Don't use a big smile for every pose. Sometimes try a small smile, a pout, a laugh, a scowl, or even a frown, to give some variety to your facial expressions.

Listen to what the photographer tells you. He can see you through the camera. You can't.



Additional Posing Tips for Plus-Size Models:

Rest most of your weight on one foot or the other instead of evenly on both feet. Doing so makes poses look less artificial and gives a slight slimming effect in most positions.

When sitting or reclining, roll one hip up slightly from the resting surface so that most of your weight is on the back of one thigh or the other instead of evenly on both thighs. This gives a slight slimming effect and makes the pose look less artificial.

Avoid having your arms hanging flat against your sides. Instead, bend your arms slightly, place your hands on your hips, or try other poses that involve alternate placements of the arms.

Keep your chin up to avoid chin wrinkles or double chins.

Posing Tips For Emphasizing Cleavage:

Lean forward.
Bring arms together at the waist.
Clasp hands together below the waist, keeping arms straight at the elbows.
Cross arms.



Posing Tips for Minimizing Cleavage:

Lean backward.
Slouch.
Keep arms apart.
Raise arms above shoulders or above head.

1. Develop a thick skin. A lot more work goes into re-touching images than most people realise. Some models can be completely altered in pictures from the way they normally look. There are many tricks used to create that perfect image - I even once had my ears superglued back because a photographer thought they stuck out too much.

2. It is ok to eat. Believe it or not, not all models live on sticks of celery and two grapes a day, the majority of models actually eat a normal healthy diet, and can even enjoy the odd burger and milkshake. But don't tell anyone...

3. Models don’t always get paid for shoots. Especially for new models building up their experience, there are many shoots that compensate in trade, either with photos or clothes, or sometimes you may not end up with anything at all.

4. Shoots are not always as glamorous as the photos portray. There is often a lot more going on behind a photo shoot than the finished picture presents. The model may have to work on a really cold or hot day wearing completely the wrong type of clothes for the season, have had 100 outfit changes or had to pose in really uncomfortable positions to get the shots.

5. You have to be on your guard. With so many camera phones backstage at shoots and runway shows sometimes someone will try and capture models at times when they may not want to be photographed. I personally had a shoot for a prominent magazine and whilst the other models and I were getting changed there was a dodgy guy taking pictures with hidden cameras. Not cool.

6. Despite getting to wear the most beautiful, expensive, glamorous outfits, models unfortunately don’t actually get to keep the clothes. Sometimes you may get lucky and get to keep something, but this rarely happens.

7. Most people believe models just have photoshoots everyday, whereas in reality many models (apart from supermodels) find it tricky getting regular bookings. There can often be periods of time with nothing but castings before work starts coming in.

8. Modelling can involve a lot of time spent waiting around; whether that’s waiting to get your hair or makeup done, waiting for the photographer to set up, waiting to get your photos back, waiting for runway shows to start or waiting to be seen at castings. So you often see models with a book or iPhone in hand as there is so much free time.

9. Your expectations don't always match reality. There can be the rare occasions whereby a model can apply for, or turn up at a shoot, expecting one thing (e.g. a fashion shoot) and find that the photographer wants to try and change it to a topless or nude shoot.

10. Models can be any age. A common misconception is that you need to be young in order to model, however there are so many different types of modelling, if you have the right look, there are plenty of opportunities out there for the more mature lady. It's never too late.

People think because I'm agency ripped, I'm going off on these glamorous fashion week events and raking in the dough and getting free clothes. Little do they know that I go weeks without even a go-see sometimes (never mind paid gigs), that the photo shoots are never glamorous (it doesn't help that I do commercial. Nothing glamorous about selling high chairs!) and I'm usually getting yelled at because they don't have time for even a single frame to not properly sell what they're selling. And the last time I got free clothes, it was from a photographer friend who bought shoes for a shoot and offered to give them to me as part of compensation."
